The city of Sopot is a natural centre of the nearly one-million Tri-City agglomeration, located between Gdańsk and Gdynia. Itā€™s a health resort well known for itā€™s sandy beaches, the longest wooden pier in Europe and International Song Festival. Population is 35,000 people, but additionally nearly 2 million tourists come here every summer. The whole city area is listed in the Pomeranian Monument Register as a historical urban system. The main communication problems are excessive car congestion, large communication noise, deterioration of the quality of public space.

In accordance with the City Strategy, actions will be supported aimed at improving the accessibility to Sopot city center, in connection with the introduction of an ecological, low-emission public transport fleet, including joint ventures implemented in cooperation with the municipalities of the Tri-City metropolitan area; activities consisting in creating a coherent network of nodes integrating transport systems in key locations for the metropolitan area, constituting nodal points in the process of people moving.
